A Must Read Letter To Graduate
By: Gandoh Jay
Dear Graduate👩‍🎓 👨‍🎓
I want to extend my profound congratulatory wishes on your achievements. Indeed, it is time to merry and celebrate your accomplishments.
As everyone sends their best wishes welcoming you to the corporate world as many of us would refer it, please know that the corporate world that we all imagine might be an illusion in Sierra Leone.
Majority might end up not working in the areas that you have studied. Getting a job in SL is really hard and don’t forget that many other graduates are already on the bench waiting before you.
What we have learnt in Uni will be totally different from what you might face in the corporate world. Therefore, forget the A grades that you might have scored in class. Today’s market is highly competitive on skills. Especially, digital skills. Make time to learn.

If you truly wants to make wealth, please don’t rely on white collar or 9-5 jobs. In addition, don’t seat and wait for a job. Start somewhere. Sometimes among the least of things. It doesn’t matter what you do, what matters is what you earn. Forget about being a graduate that you can only wait for a white collar job. Pretend you can’t afford the bread 🥖 until you buy the bakery.
Lastly so, let us embrace the spirit of entrepreneurship. You might start as pineapple juice seller until one day you start to farm the pineapples. Until one day you start a pineapple 🍍 juice factory and you become a CEO of juice company that makes millions revenue every month. But we can’t just start by owning the company. We got to start somewhere. Look beyond the degree that you acquired and don’t be afraid to dream and start something new. Don’t be afraid to dare yourself!
Once more

félicitations

and bon chance 🙏🙏🙏.
