Former Sierra Leonean and Leone Stars midfielder Alfred Zagalo Sankoh has announced his retirement from professional football at age of 33.

According sources gathered by Salone Messenger, injuries have prevented him from getting consistent game time since leaving Ullern FC in Norway.

In a post on Facebook, Alfred said:

“I finally decided to publish this news today after some tough times for the past 3 to 4 years suffering with ankle pain and have been using pain killers and injections that have sadly destroyed my cartilage in my ankle but I thank God for a successful surgery”

“It was really disappointing to hear the news from the Doctor that I will not be able to play football again so I finally decide today to retire from football and continue my coaching career as my next chapter”

“I finally want to say thanks to the almighty God and my family and friends that have helped me on this journey to achieve a successful career that I appreciated football for ever.”

Alfred Sankoh recently completed his UEFA Licence  Diploma and has confirmed he is fully focus on his Coaching career after spending years through pains.

He since had spells at Denizlispor, Nottoden and Ullern, but injuries continued to hamper his career.

Alfred Sankoh returned to Nottoden in 2019, before making the move to Ullern last season.
